Why there is no cookie banner
Because there is nothing to ask you about. This site runs no analytics, no advertising pixels, no tag manager and no session recording. We do not track you here and we cannot track you anywhere else. The only things we store in your browser are the two below, and both are strictly necessary for the site to do what you asked it to.
South Africa has no cookie statute, and POPIA has no cookie provision. What it does require is that we tell you plainly what we store and why, and that we have a lawful reason for it. That is what this page is. If we ever add analytics, we will ask you first and you will be able to say no without losing anything.
What we store
- Your cart (lpg-cart, browser local storage). Remembers what you have added so it survives a page reload. It is written as soon as you load the site and holds a single number: the quantity in your cart, which is zero until you add something. It says nothing about who you are.
- Your light or dark preference (lpg-theme, browser local storage). Remembers whether you chose light or dark so the page does not flash the wrong theme when it loads. If you have never chosen, we read your operating system’s preference instead and store nothing.
Both are local storage rather than cookies in the strict sense, which means they stay in your browser and are never sent to our server. Neither identifies you, neither is shared with anyone, and neither has any purpose beyond the one described.
What we do not store
- No advertising or retargeting identifiers.
- No analytics or visitor-measurement cookies.
- No third-party cookies, and no social media pixels.
- No fingerprinting, and nothing that follows you to another site.
Third parties that see a request
Two services are involved in loading pages, and neither sets a tracking cookie for us:
- Google Cloud hosts the site, so our hosting logs record ordinary request information including your IP address. That is described in our privacy policy.
- Google Places is used only on the checkout page, and only if you type into the address field, so that it can suggest matching South African addresses. Google may set its own cookies when your browser calls it. You can ignore the suggestions and type your address in by hand — the checkout works perfectly without it.
Clearing them
Every browser lets you clear site data, and every browser lets you block it. If you clear ours, the only thing that happens is that your cart empties and the site forgets whether you preferred dark mode. Nothing breaks.
