Does it work on any cylinder?

It fits any standard steel LPG cooking or braai cylinder from 5 kg to 48 kg. The sensor magnets to the flat base; there is nothing to drill, screw or plumb. It does not work on aluminium or composite cylinders — the magnet will not hold and the reading depends on steel. If you are unsure about your cylinder, email us before you buy.

How accurate is the reading?

The sensor reads the gas level through the steel wall and reports a percentage and an approximate weight in kilograms. Those are estimates rather than certified measurements: they depend on the cylinder type and wall thickness, the temperature and how squarely the sensor is seated on clean steel. It is built to be good enough to plan a refill around, which is what most people want it for — but treat it as a guide rather than a gauge you would bet on, and do not run a cylinder down to the last few percent on the strength of it.

Is it a gas leak detector?

Accepted Answer

No. LPG Sense measures how much gas is in the cylinder. It is not a leak detector, not a gas alarm and not a safety device, it will not warn you about a leak, and it must never be relied on for safety. If you want leak warning, fit a separate purpose-built LPG leak detector. If you ever smell gas, close the cylinder valve, keep away from flames and sparks, ventilate the area and call an installer registered with SAQCC Gas.

How does it connect to my phone?

Over Bluetooth, at roughly 10 metres. Open the LPG Sense app when you are near the cylinder and it syncs your latest reading. An always-on WiFi bridge is on the roadmap for monitoring without your phone nearby.

Question 5

How long does the battery last?

Accepted Answer

About 12 months in normal use. The app shows the sensor's battery level and warns you before it runs down. The cell is a standard 3 V lithium coin cell and you replace it yourself — twist the back off, swap it, and the sensor picks up where it left off. No tools, and nothing to send in.

Can I replace the battery myself?

Yes. It takes a standard 3 V lithium coin cell, sold in any supermarket or hardware shop. Twist the back cover off, swap the cell, and close it — no tools, nothing to post to us, and your readings and history are unaffected. The app shows the current battery level so you get warning before it goes flat.

Is it safe and weatherproof?

The sensor is non-invasive — it magnets to the outside of the cylinder and never touches the valve, the regulator or the gas. It is rated IP55, which means it copes with dust and splashing water, so it is fine outdoors next to a braai or under a covered cylinder. IP55 is not an immersion rating, so do not submerge it or leave it standing in water. It is a battery-powered electronic device and is not certified for use in a classified hazardous area, so keep it on the flat base where it belongs — well clear of the valve — and do not use it on a cylinder kept in an unventilated room, cellar or basement.

Not yet. The sensor is not on sale while we finish secure checkout, so there is nothing to buy or reserve on the site today — and no card details are taken anywhere. Email info@lpg.africa and we will let you know the moment orders open. Delivery will then be a flat R89 anywhere in South Africa via Aramex, typically 1–3 business days once dispatched.

What is your returns and warranty policy?

You have 7 business days from delivery to cancel an online purchase for any reason, and 6 months in which a faulty sensor goes back at our cost, with the choice of a repair, a replacement or a refund. Question 10

How do refunds work?

Accepted Answer

Refunds go back to the card or account you paid from, never as store credit. Once a refund is agreed we release it within 5 business days, and your bank then takes a further 3 to 10 business days to show it. If the sensor was faulty, misdescribed or never arrived, we pay the return courier as well. See lpg.africa/legal/refunds.
